Building Community Through Books
/I don’t know about you all, but I have been SO blessed by our writers and speakers lately. Truly. God has done some truly wonderful things in the lives of so many amazing women, and we are privileged enough to hear even a few of the countless things He has done!
With a goal of wanting to get to know our speakers and writers a little bit more, so we asked them a few questions. One of the things we asked them is,
“What are you currently reading?”
I love a good book! We got some great responses, and so today, I want to take a few minutes to highlight what two of our writers have personally recommended to each of you!
FAM contributor, Chrissy Baird, wrote a blog for us 2 years ago!! It’s crazy to think The FAM has been around for that long! Go check out her blog here.
Anyway, Chrissy recently wrote an instagram post for us, and we decided to ask her what she was currently reading and would recommend for y’all. She suggested one of my ALL TIME favorite books, Uninvited, by Lysa Terkeurst.
You guys. I don’t know if you’ve read anything by Lysa Terkeurst, but I literally love all of her books! She speaks with such raw intentionality in her books that you can’t put them down! Her book, Uninvited, focuses on the concept of rejection. We all feel rejected at some point in our life. Rejection hurts. It eats away at our worth, and if we’re not careful, it can allow lies to permeate the beautiful heart that God created in each of us.
Lysa speaks truth into those lies and speaks against the rejection that we all so often feel. She speaks truth over it and directs us to God’s word over and over again. Thanks, Chrissy, for this recommendation! Seriously, this book is a must read. Check it out here!
Amanda Dahlman’s blog, “My Weakness, His Strength”, aired a few weeks ago. If you didn’t read it, check it out! When we asked her what she was currently reading that she would recommend, she suggested Remember God, by Annie F. Downs.
This book will also quickly become a favorite. I personally haven’t read it, but I’ve listened to numerous podcasts by Annie F. Downs, and let me tell you, she is my kind of gal. She speaks and writes in a light-hearted, yet very real manner and is so relatable. It’s hard not to feel like you’re just sitting in a coffee shop conversing with her.
Remember God speaks to the doubts we have about the kindness of God. We easily remember that God is powerful, big, loving; it’s even easy to talk how God is in control, but what about when things aren’t going our way? What about when life seems to be spiraling out of control? Do we still believe God is in control? Do we still believe he is kind?
Annie wrestles through how we remember God in the midst of all of those things. If you look in scripture, people are constantly building altars and setting up markings and reminders to remind them of God’s faithfulness. We may not be building altars, but giving ourselves tangible reminders of God’s faithfulness is so important to remember his kindness! Check out her book at the link below!
Remember God: How to Ruthlessly Believe in an Incredibly Kind God
By Annie F. Downs / B&H Books
I am so excited about these books recommended by Chrissy and Amanda. In fact, there’s nothing I want to do more right now than to curl up with a blanket, a cup of tea, and one of these books.
The FAM is honored to be able to put out blogs and podcasts every week, but we also know there are so many other people, organizations, and websites also doing crazy work for the Kingdom of God. We are excited to be able to give and suggest these extra resources. Use them! Read them! Share them with others! You will be so blessed.
Now excuse me while I go grab my blanket and tea and prepare for an evening of reading.
