Is Fear Holding You Back?
/Life brings so much uncertainty. There are trials around every corner, internal battles that we fight every day, and a spiritual warfare that is ever raging around us. All of this breeds fear.
Fear is a common feeling that creeps into our souls and lives there unknowingly until we want to step out in faith. Or when we contemplate our future. Or worst of all, when an unexpected trial comes our way. The problem with fear is that it can swallow up our identity. It can turn into more than just, “Lord, I need to lay this at your feet.” It becomes a part of who we are, which is important to be cognoscente of so we can have victory over this fear. One of my most favorite verses when it comes to fear is, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. In God, whose word I praise- in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” Psalm 56:3-4
As women in the athletics world, we continually battle fear.
I battled fear as I grew up struggling with playing time with certain coaches. I battled it when I tore my ACL and Meniscus my first year playing collegiate soccer. And I battled it as a leader of my college team. All these fears were reinforced time after time that I just wasn’t good enough.
As I continue in my life post athletics, this fear has continued to follow me and leak into every facet of my life. Back in 2015, I started feeling called to start a blog with the main focus being devotions. Then, after fighting many fears of mine (I’m not spiritual enough to write devotions; I don’t have as much life experience; I’m not that biblically smart, etc., etc.,), my sister came alongside me and asked if we wanted to do it together with her part being lifestyle and in a vlog format. Beginning in 2017, we launched our blog FreeIndeedCo.
Even though it took me two years to finally begin our journey, I can tell you, I have been more set free from my fears in this past year than ever before. As stupid as it sounds, I was deathly afraid of Social Media and putting my face on a public platform. It took me awhile to begin posting Instagram stories and videos of myself. It is S-C-A-R-Y even for this 27 year old. Now, I am starting another new adventure with Beautycounter as a Consultant. These are things I would have never pictured myself doing back in college or high school.
But, now, I am free from my petty fears and I want you to be as well.
All I have to do is remind myself of this truth: What can mere mortals do to me? When we live our life in light of whose we are, we are freer than ever to live out His purpose for our lives.
What I have learned is that the enemy does not want us to step out in faith because we will miss out on the countless blessings the Lord has for us. He is on a mission to kill, steal, and destroy. Since he can’t take our salvation from us, he wants to kill our faith, steal our joy, and destroy our confidence in the identity we have in Christ.
NO. I refuse.
I refuse because greater is He who is inside me than he who is in the world. I refuse to let the enemy control my actions. I refuse to let my identity be entangled with fear.
I recently listened to a sermon from Ben Courson, and these were his words…
If the Bible says, you’re the head, then don’t walk around like you’re the tail.
If the Bible says, you’re above, then don’t act like you’re beneath.
If the Bible says, you are fearfully and wonderfully made, then don’t live fearfully as though you are not made.
If the Bible says, you are His workmanship, then don’t act like you are a piece of garbage.
If the Bible says, you are His poema, then don’t act like your story is not worth telling.
Ben Courson is probably one of my favorite pastors of all time. He has an app called Hope Generation and you all need to download it (right now). Needless to say, repeat these quotes and verses in your head and let them seep into your soul. Enjoy your walk with the Lord and let His love change you from the inside out. Stop procrastinating and JUST DO IT.
If the LIVING God, who created the entire universe, is FOR us, then who can stand against us?
