In today’s society, showing up is hard. It’s not easy waking up everyday and hustling, not knowing if what you are doing is making a difference one way or another. We may ask ourselves, “Is it even worth it?” I am here to tell you one thing: YES. IT. IS. The lie that we can so easily buy into is that what we are doing with our life right now probably will not adequately prepare us for the future. My guest in today’s episode is here to prove that statement wrong.
Today I sat down with former cheerleader, Brooke Schasteen-Smith. She is on a mission to make others better whether that be in their relationship with the Lord, in their sport, or in the business world. Brooke has lived her whole life with passion and zeal. She took that from cheerleading, where she felt as if she had to take a stand for the validity of her sport, to the business world, where she has played pivotal roles in start-up and the advancement of numerous big name companies all across the country. Her confidence is an inspiration not only to me, but I hope to every listener and reader as well!
Brooke’s story is one of trust, bravery, and resilience. She uses these traits as tools to enhance the lives of the ones around her. She states, “if you don’t challenge yourself, you’ll never get better. If you don’t push yourself past your comfort zone or past the hard parts… is it even worth it?” There is such value in making the decision to show up, say yes, and starting whatever it is that might scare you. I was so encouraged to hear these words. Not only do they apply to the corporate world or your sport, but they also so deeply relate back to biblical truth. With your faith in Jesus, you have an important decision to make. Are you going to say yes to Him and follow His ways?
If you need a little motivation to keep going, then this is most definitely the episode for you! Brooke encourages the listeners to rejoice in the struggles that may come your way. Your purpose may come through a difficult season. What you are doing right now, no matter what it may be, is paving the way for your future. So from me to you, know that you are so much more than your sport. You have the power to spin the narrative and take your passion everywhere you go.
3 key takeaways from this episode:
You are more than your sport
Your purpose in life is not to be the best cheerleader or soccer player in the world. Your purpose is so much deeper. Your purpose is to wake up every morning and make it happen… to say yes to being the best at everything you do. Excellence is a virtue and it is what you were created to be.
Taking your passion everywhere you go
You are more than capable to take your passion for your sport and place it in every area of your life. This allows you to, not only play your best, but to be your best in the classroom or conference room. For Brooke, this took commitment and bravery. She stood up for herself being a woman in her field and is a trailblazer for the women that will come after her. That’s passion.
How challenging yourself makes you better
Your comfort zone is the number one thing that is holding you back from reaching your dreams. We heard from Brooke that if she had never said no to cheerleading and listened to her body, she would never be where she is now. The challenge for her was to say no. Not cheering was uncomfortable, but it made her better. It’s all about showing up with your game face on, ready to tackle whatever may come your way.
