Rose Grant is the current and 5x marathon MTB national champion and 2x Leadville 100 MTB Champ. She has been a member of the US National Championship team 4 times, and has accumulated countless podium finishes and across the world over the course of her Mountain bike racing career. Balancing life as an athlete, wife, and mother is a difficult task, and Rose was no exception!
Marrying her high school sweetheart in her late twenties and with the wide open world before her, Rose felt unstoppable! She followed her passion of becoming a highly notarized mountain biker. Although her life from the outside looked successful and put together from the outside, there were daily internal struggles that persistently pulled her away from God and her family.
In today’s episode as I sit down with Rose, she tells us how God has brought her from a place of pain and shamefulness to a place of freedom. She shares how, although her journey was hard and full of injury and devastation, she can look back at how the Lord intervened on her behalf every time. She now has the opportunity to speak into the life of moms and athletes all over the world.
I hope that our conversation will bring you hope that although there may be pain in the night, joy is coming in the morning. Rose’s goal is to empower women to pursue their dreams. She feels very passionately about that. She wants them to experience the empowerment that comes from victory and defeat, working hard, and pushing the limits.
3 key takeaways from this episode:
Rose Grant’s mountain bike career
In her own words, she says, “I am a mountain girl from NW Montana where I live life passionately with my husband, Nelson, and daughter, Layla. The mountains are a part of my bigger story beyond racing mountain bikes around the world. Mountain biking has been the vessel that has allowed me to fulfill a divine desire to push physical and mental limits, and adventure to the fullest. My energy flows from my passion, my passion flows out of love, it is love that gives me ultimate joy, and it is joy in which I find my strength.” Some career highlights include Leadville 100 MTB Champion in 2019, 5 time Mountain Bike Marathon National Champion from 2014-2017 and then again in 2019, and 4 time XCO World Championship National Team member from 2015-2017 and again in 2019.
How the enemy uses isolation
In Rose’s lowest points, she felt so trapped and alone. That is just what the enemy does. He attacks our minds and then uses isolation to further allow us to go into a downward spiral of depression, suppression, and hiding away the things that need to be brought to light. I have seen it in my own life as well as hearing about it in my conversation with Rose.
How God restored her marriage
I asked her how she persevered through the battles that she faced in her marriage. She responded, “it’s hard for me to talk about what I do without talking about how the Lord has intervened so many times.” Through the healing and intervention that only Jesus could bring, Rose and her husband, Nelson, have survived through all that the enemy tried to throw at them. If there were ever a success story on not giving up, it would be this one!
